Earlier this month, three Chatsmore students, Joseph Angioni, Alicia Dutton, Abby Smith, were presented with the national Legacy 110 award at the House of Lords.

As part of the national commemorations these students had a unique opportunity to travel to the Somme and Ypres. They visited historic sites including battlefields, memorials, cemeteries and museums, participated in remembrance ceremonies, and were then able to record, reflect and share their own experiences.

As part of the programme students were asked to plan and lead a community-focussed commemorative project as part of the Legacy110 initiative. This culminated in a school effort to design and install a permanent memorial to the soliders of Sussex who fought and died in the “Battle of the Boar’s Head” on the 30th June 1916.
